Psychological Diagnostic Assessments
A psychological assessment can help individuals and families better understand developmental, cognitive, behavioural and functional needs. Assessment findings may assist with identifying appropriate supports, developing strategies and making informed decisions about next steps.
GPP offers assessment pathways for the following areas, subject to clinician availability and suitability.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Autism assessments explore areas such as social communication, interaction, behavioural patterns, sensory experiences and developmental history.
Depending on the individual, an assessment may involve clinical interviews, developmental history, standardised assessment tools and information from family members or other relevant professionals.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
ADHD assessments explore attention, impulsivity, activity levels and executive functioning, including how these may affect everyday activities and participation.
The assessment process may include clinical interviews, developmental history, rating scales and information about functioning across different settings.
Intellectual Disability (ID)
Intellectual disability assessments consider both cognitive functioning and adaptive functioning, including practical, social and conceptual skills used in everyday life.
Assessment findings can help clarify an individual's strengths, support needs and functional challenges. Conclusions are based on the relevant assessment information and clinical judgement, rather than a single test result.
Evidence-Based Assessment Methods
Our assessment approach uses appropriate, validated tools selected according to the referral question, the individual's age and clinical circumstances.
Depending on the assessment, tools may include:
ADOS-2: A structured assessment tool used as part of an autism diagnostic evaluation.
Conners rating scales: Questionnaires that assist in evaluating ADHD-related symptoms and behaviours.
CAARS-2: Rating scales used in the assessment of ADHD in adults.
Cognitive assessments: Standardised measures that help evaluate intellectual and cognitive functioning.
ABAS or Vineland: Measures of adaptive functioning, including everyday practical, social and conceptual skills.
No single assessment tool determines a diagnosis on its own. Findings are interpreted alongside relevant history, clinical information and other assessment results.

We aim to make the assessment process clear, supportive and transparent.
1. Initial enquiry
We discuss your concerns, assessment goals and circumstances to determine whether our services may be suitable.
2. Assessment appointments
The clinician gathers relevant information and completes appropriate interviews, questionnaires and assessment measures.
3. Interpretation of findings
Assessment information is reviewed and interpreted in the context of the individual's history and presentation.
4. Feedback and reporting
The clinician discusses the findings and relevant recommendations. Written reports and feedback sessions are provided according to the agreed assessment pathway.
Where available and clinically appropriate, a staged assessment option may allow an initial assessment outcome to be discussed before proceeding to a comprehensive diagnostic report. The process, inclusions and fees will be explained before you decide how to proceed.
Private assessment pathways may not require a GP referral. Requirements can vary depending on the service and funding arrangements, so please contact us to discuss your circumstances.on text goes here

GPP provides psychology support tailored to the individual needs, strengths and goals of NDIS participants, where the service is within the clinician's scope of practice and meets applicable funding requirements.
Depending on the participant's circumstances, psychology sessions may focus on:
Emotional regulation and coping strategies to help manage everyday challenges.
Capacity building to support independence, participation and everyday functioning.
Understanding individual needs and exploring psychological or behavioural factors affecting daily life.
Psychoeducation to improve understanding of relevant psychological and developmental needs.
Parent and carer support through practical strategies that support the participant's goals.
Reports and recommendations to inform support planning, where appropriate and agreed.
Our approach is person-centred, strengths-based and collaborative. We aim to work with participants, families and other professionals, where appropriate, to support meaningful outcomes.
-
Some psychology supports may be funded through an NDIS plan when they meet the applicable NDIS funding criteria and are consistent with the participant's plan and support needs.
Diagnostic assessments undertaken to establish a diagnosis are generally arranged privately or through another applicable health funding pathway, particularly when someone is seeking access to the NDIS. An existing NDIS plan does not automatically mean a diagnostic assessment is fundable.
We recommend discussing your requirements with our team before booking so we can clarify the service, expected fees and potential funding considerations.
